Who is in the Rikki Bobby Band?

Three players, six decades of hits, and more than eighty years of Austin stage time between us. We are a live three-piece cover band and party band based in Austin, Texas, and we know how to rock a house.

Rik (Rikki) Avalos

Lead Vocals / Guitar / Bass

Rik has fronted Austin rock bands for more than thirty years, starting on the Sixth Street club circuit with Dirty Oliver in the ’90s. He writes and records original music as the Rik Avalos Band at Austin’s 512 Studios, and his range is enormous: the low Garth Brooks growl of Friends in Low Places and a Smokey Robinson falsetto in the same night. Singer, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and the reason nothing on our setlist gets transposed down to make it easier.

Bob (Bobby) Michaels

Lead Vocals / Guitar / Bass

Bob has played guitar on Austin stages since 1988, over thirty-five years of clubs, festivals, and private events with bands like the Rave and Slippery Fish, and he plays lead guitar in the Rik Avalos Band today. He sings lead and harmony with the range to cover the originals faithfully, he covers bass when Rik takes guitar, and he trades solos with Rik all night: true to the record when the song calls for it, sometimes off the leash, but always right on time and right in tune. Thirty-five years on stage, and he knows exactly how to entertain a crowd.

Sonny Sanchez

Drums / Backing Vocals

Sonny co-founded the Austin rock band Sounds Under Radio in 2004 and has been behind the kit ever since. He drummed for SINE, and he has worked at 512 Studios since 2020, the same Austin room where Rik records. Here he is the engine room, holding the tempo that carries a dance floor through a Motown shuffle, a Prince groove and the downbeat on Enter Sandman in the same night. He sings behind both frontmen, so every chorus lands with three voices on it.
